SVQs are Scottish Vocational Qualifications and NVQs are National Vocational Qualifications. SVQs and NVQs are qualifications gained by using your knowledge and skills to work competently. Your knowledge and skills are assessed on site by your assessor.

To achieve the S/NVQ you must prove to our qualified assessor that you can perform competently to the standards applicable to the qualification sought.
To do so you must produce evidence of your competence for the assessor to judge. The evidence will be compiled in a portfolio and will come from a variety of sources, including the assessor's observation of your performance at work, documents from projects and day to day activities, and your responses to questions put by the assessor.
No. The S/NVQ is made up of stand-alone units (some core and some optional) which are separately assessed. You can work towards individual units, or clusters of units, and can have these separately certificated if required.
No. Previous qualifications are not required. Experience is needed, however, because S/NVQs are assessed on the basis of your performance in a real work situation.
No. All that is required is that you demonstrate competence to the specified standard while on your job role.
The Awarding Body awards SVQs and NVQs and approves and monitors Assessment Centres.
